Knowledge Outcomes
1. Identify the impact of chronic stress, fear, and trauma and violence on the neurobiological development of the child. 2. Identify psychosocial factors associated with trauma response (age, ability, gender, cultural and racial identities, class, and spirituality/religious faith) 3. Identify symptoms of stress, trauma and violence in school age children 4. Identify types of trauma/crisis children may encounter 5. Identify the cognitive, affective, behavioral, and neurological sequalae associated with trauma, chronic stress, fear, or violence. 6. Identify the educator’s and support staff’s role in supporting and accommodating students who have special learning needs due to exposure to trauma or chronic stress, fear, or violence. 7. Identify prevention, intervention, and post-vention strategies and techniques applicable to the school setting. 8. Identify the importance and role of the Crisis Team in the School and School System and explore different models. 9. Identify techniques for supporting students and families affected by stress, trauma or violence. 10. Identify current practice trends in post trauma therapy 11. Identify impact of secondary trauma, and identify strategies to reduce compassion fatigue

Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
• Define Developmental Counseling • Review and interpret the MASCA Model of Developmental Guidance, the ASCA Model of Developmental Guidance, and the Massachusetts Standards for School Guidance, and the CACREP National Standards for school guidance • Differentiate Developmental Counseling from the more traditional school-based model • Articulate the strands CACREP ,ASCA and MASCA Models of Developmental Guidance. • Identify the importance of a proactive developmental guidance program that focuses on the Academic, College & Career Readiness, and the Social/Emotion/Health Wellness of the individual child. • Identify and utilize teaching and classroom control strategies when presenting material to groups of students. • Identify different type of groups and the knowledge and flexibility to deliver information to diverse populations. • Foster a professional relationship with the student in the classroom setting and nurture that relationship in an individual/small group counseling session based on mutual trust and respect. • Construct and share guidance lessons for identified groups. • Identify the ever changing role of the school counselor. • Explain the delivery of services in a school and the use of data driven assessment of school guidance.

Identify and respond to non-verbal and para-verbal cues in role play and video situations 3. Differentiate between open and closed response questions 4. Describe Solution Focused Counseling techniques 5. Describe Reality Therapy Counseling techniques 6. Describe Person Centered Therapy techniques 7. Recall Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs theory 8. Compare and contrast the use of different counseling techniques
Skill Outcomes: Students will be able to: 1. Ask open response questions in a role play situation 2. Use active listening skills in role play 3. Role play counseling and consulting scenarios using Solution Focused, Person-Centered, and Reality Therapy techniques.

Knowledge Outcomes The student will be able to: 1. Identify normal developmental and family life cycles stresses and how these might impact students at school. 2. Name assessment instruments for children in need, and state their purpose. 3. Explain the different types of support a school can offer to students in need, including prevention, intervention and post-vention. 4. Identify and describe different types of student learning disorders including emotional issues affecting student achievement and their treatment. 5. Identify strategies and curriculum for the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, physical and sexual abuse and violence in PreK-12 students. 6. Describe components of the criminal justice system with particular reference to the juvenile justice system and organizations. 7. Identify federal and state laws and regulations addressing the legal rights of students and families. 8. Identify state-of-the-art diagnostic instruments; procedures for testing and interpreting results.
Skill Outcomes: The student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate techniques for communicating and working with families and school and community personnel. 2. Conduct and write a Functional Behavioral Assessment and identify the function of a behavior for a specific student or character. 3. Write a Behavior Intervention Plan after conducting the Functional Behavior Assessment. 4. Participate in meetings with family and school personnel to increase the chances of student engagement and success

State how school counseling practice can align with educational reform efforts to promote social, emotional and academic learning for all students. 3. Identify the educational reform practices in their respective schools. 4. Identify how school counselors can use a variety of approaches to accomplish guidance program objectives. 5. Describe 2 approaches to accomplish the Guidance Program at their appropriate school level. 6. State how school counseling programs can be planned, organized, delivered and evaluated. 7. Identify preventive and wellness curriculum and materials available to support students and parents at their level. 8 Identify how school counselors can function as systemic change agents 9. Explain how legal, ethical, and professional issues impact practice. 10. Identify the strengths and needs of individuals and groups from a variety of racial, ethnic, cultural, experiential, and linguistic backgrounds. 11. Describe public school organization and operation 12. Identify ethical considerations and legal aspects of school counseling 13. Identify the legal and ethical issues that impact their school. 14. Identify uses of technology to improve the efficiency of the practice of school counseling. 15. Identify technologies available to improve the support and development of student achievement and success. 16. Review the Curriculum Frameworks for the level of student they are working with.

Advocate appropriately for the needs of students on their caseload. 3. Develop collaborative and consultative teamwork skills. 4. Develop skills to form partnerships between parents, educators, and the community. 5. Identify problems and inequities in education and work to promote social justice 6. Use the Curriculum Frameworks in advising students 7. Interpret the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) and other academic tests to students, teachers, and parents. 8. Knowledge Outcomes Student will be able to: 1. Given a scenario, the student will be able to identify a client's needs. 2. Develop an intervention according to a client's needs. 3. Listen and respond to the needs of faculty, administration and other members of the school community. 4. Identify and communicate recommendations to student, parents, faculty and other school community members regarding specific issues. 5. Identify community resources and make appropriate referrals. 6. Identify developmental stages of cognitive and emotional development for elementary, middle and high school students. 7. Define the role of the school counselor within the context of the school culture. 8. Identify demographics, values and expectations of the school community. 9. Describe the organizational structure of the school to which they are assigned. 10. Identify the resources within the school for students and parents to utilize.
Skill Outcomes Students will be able to : 1. Apply appropriate techniques within individual, small and large group counseling settings. 2. Actively participate in Special Education and 504 meetings. 3. Apply techniques to promote academic success among students.
